Have you been hearing a few unexpected gunfire bangs down by the river lately? Well Duck Shooting explains it all with the duck season now being underway. The hunting organisation, Fish and Game, are expecting great things for this season as they have said that duck numbers in the North Island are reasonably healthy, which is a positive sign for hunters.
With the Taranaki season just starting two days again, the 10-bird daily limit for mallard and grey duck has a lot of people urging to get down on the rivers/lakes. However the season is only a short eight-week period, which is in order to ensure that population levels can be maintained.
Meanwhile in Auckland-Waikato regions, duck population numbers are only just returning to normal after several years of spring floods. As such their season is halved to a short 4 weeks, with shooters having reduced bag limits.
Fish and Game said eastern areas were hopeful of a positive start with mallard numbers appearing to be up.

What happened;
on the 3 of may the duck shooting season started with a loud boom! The limit of ducks to be shot per day is 10 and it is only going to be 8 short weeks and in Auckland and Waikato it is halved to be four short weeks because of several spring floods.

My  Opinion :

I think when it floods there should be a longer shooting period.

  1. Is this because there will be more water, therefore more ducks? Good thoughts Oli. I think some people have shot heaps of ducks. Do you think it is ok to just get rid of the ducks or do you think they should only shoot enough for their family if they want to eat them? I know they can be a pest but do you think their should be a limit on how many they kill?
