Battle of Waterloo

 http://www.kiwikidsnews.co.nz/blog/battle-of-waterloo-remembered/

Two hundred years after the Battle of Waterloo took place, 6,000 volunteers have recreated the historic fight. The volunteers dressed as soldiers and carefully re-enacted the battle for a huge audience.
300 horses and 100 cannons were used in the huge display. To make sure it was safe, no real bullets were used and it was choreographed by experts.
200 years ago on 18 June, 1815, two men faced off in a muddy field in Waterloo, Belgium. They were The Duke of Wellington, (with his army made up of British troops and Dutch, Belgian and German soldiers) and Napoleon (with his French Imperial Guard).
The battle was a showdown between two of history’s greatest military giants. They were the same age, incredible leaders and had a long list of victories behind them.
Napoleon Bonaparte declared himself emperor in 1804. In 1805, he was defeated by the British at the Battle of Trafalgar.
But that didn’t stop Napoleon – he went on to invade countries across Europe before being forced to give up his power.
He returned to Paris in March 1815, prompting Britain, Russia, Austria and an historic state called Prussia, to declare war.

Rugby Current Events

http://www.kiwikidsnews.co.nz/blog/junior-all-blacks-win-world-cup/

The junior All Blacks won the under 20 rugby world cup for the 5th time. They played the final against England. Some misjudgement almost cost NZ the championship.
England started the game very well. By half time the score was 11-10  England  were falling behind.                                    Later in the game Vince Aso  ran 35m to score in the corner. score in the second half New Zealand came in stronger when the score was 18-10.   no more tries were scored and there was only 3 penalty goals. At the end of the game they preformed  a Haka and the coach a break dance.

My Opinion :

I think it is great that they won the world cup but they should be moved up to challenge harder people and get better at playing rugby.

Mexico sheep

http://www.kiwikidsnews.co.nz/blog/live-sheep-head-for-Mexico/

  • Sheep grazing, Dunedin, New Zealand, Friday, Febrary 13, 2009. Credit:SNPA / Ross Setford

Who: Sheep

When: 12 June

Where: Mexico and NZ

How: By a boat

Why: Drought and breeding

what happened:

50,000 sheep are being transported to Mexico from new Zealand by boat.
They are being sent to help the Mexican farmers to have more sheep because they don't have many because of a drought in their country.
1,000 sheep may die, most will die because they are standing in poo for to long or they don't have enough room. They are being moved to Mexico because we have to many sheep and because of they are needed for breeding. It will take two weeks to reach Mexico.

My opinion:
I think it is good to send sheep to Mexico, but they should take two boats so the sheep can have more room and last longer and I think they open up the floor when the sheep need to poo so they don't end up standing in poo for a whole two weeks.

My Holiday With Mac

I was so exited to get mac this week. When we got home Charlie , Seth, Mac and I watched a movie and had some dinner. For dinner we had pizza and Mac thought it was yummy. For pudding we had ice-cream and Mac ate it quickly because he thought it was delicious. Then it was time for the real party to begin. We went to wave rave and  Mac went down to the deep end with us on the   surf board  when it was wavy. When we weren't in the wave pool we were in the spa and it was really warm. while we were in the spa there was a lolly scramble and I got a lolly for Mac, he loved it. When we got changed dad let us get some lollies and we got a packet of nerds.
Mac and I had a great week together!

Jerry Collins Dies In Car Crash Current Events

jerry collinsWho: Jerry Collins

When: 6 June

Where: France

How: Collided With a bus

What happened:

Former All Black Jerry Collins died when he and his wife crashed into a bus. He played 48 tests and scored 5 tries for the All blacks and also played in France, Wales and japan after leaving New Zealand. He played for the Hurricanes 47 times and he  was known for his hard tackling. Police think they crossed the motor way and crashed into a bus. The  accident is still under investigation. Police think Jerry's wife fell asleep when the crash happened and died.

My opinion:

I think his death  is sad because Jerry Collins was a very good tackler and played very good rugby for the All Blacks. I think it is a big los to the rugby industry. He was also a young man. Also a young dad.

Cricket Tests current events

http://www.kiwikidsnews.co.nz/blog/black-caps-win/
Capture
The Black Caps secured their first test win in England since 1999, and the team’s fifth Test win in England. The result squares up the two match series following their loss at Lord’s last week.
At the end of the first innings both teams were even, however, a stunning second innings from the Kiwis put them in an unbeatable position. Scoring 454 at 4.98 runs per over left the hosts stunned and they were unable to block out the match.
Boult, Craig, and surprisingly Williamson were the key bowlers on the final day. Player of the match was BJ Watling who anchored the second innings at a time when the match was still in the balance.
Despite the win, the Kiwis could only draw the series – as a result they have slipped on the ICC rankings from third to fourth
